Rimat ti Amianan lured thousands to the city

THOUSANDS trooped to Dagupan City last week for a chance to view and sample the varied products featured by 70 exhibitors from the four provinces of Region 1 and other neighboring provinces in the annual Rimat ti Amianan (treasures of the north) tourism and trade exposition.

Held for the first time in the province at the CSI Stadia, Dagupan City from October 20 to 26, 2014, the annual market promotion activity of the Region 1 office of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Region 1 primarily showcased and promoted the best trade and tourism products and services of the region.

Featured were a wide array of products, from processed and fresh foods, furniture and home furnishings; gifts, housewares, and holiday decorations, garments and fashion accessories, footwear and leather goods, organic and natural products, health and wellness products, ornamental plants to tourism-oriented products and services.

The exposition was hailed for helping strengthen the marketing and negotiation skills of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the region, preparing the MSMEs in penetrating national and global markets, and showcasing the tourist destinations and enhance the image of the region as a prime tourist destination.

Dagupan City Mayor Belen Fernandez expressed her gratitude to the Department of Trade and Industry and the Department of Tourism for b the opportunity given the city to host the 12th installment of the event.
On Oct. 20, the DTI-Region 1 Director Florante Leal presented a P2.8-million check to the city as its counterpart to assist the city in implementing its marketing activities for the bangus industry and livelihood programs.

Fernandez has committed to focus i on the development of the bangus industry and organized the Bangus Development Team that conducted seminar-workshops to encourage bangus industry entrepreneurs to adopt the change on their product and label.

“Everybody was so proud of their brand,” the mayor said describing the enthusiasm of the stakeholders in the bangus industry that joined the expo with their new and improved product labels and packaging.

Philippine Center for Entrepreneurship executive director Ramon Lopez, as guest speaker during the opening program, underscored the importance of the MSMEs, which he considered the key to inclusive growth.

The expo with the theme, “Sikat Pinoy Piling-piling Produkto at Tanawin ng Rehiyon Uno” traditionally includes product and tourism exhibit, cultural shows, trainings and seminars, tourism convention, and seafood festival.

Exhibitors included DOT-Region 1, Provincial Tourism Office, city of Dagupan, municipality of Bauang, Java Hotel, Clark International Airport, Corp., Nayong Filipino Foundation, Rio Grande, Cordillera Administrative Region, Vigan City, DOT-Cagayan Valley Region, Bolinao, Alaminos City, DOT-Region IV-A, and HIHTROA.
Other personalities who graced the opening trade fair were Department of Tourism-Region 1 director Martin Valera and DTI Pangasinan director Peter Mangabat.
