Pangasinan forms ‘Ebola’ Task Force

Despite rising cases of Ebola virus in some countries, the Department of Health says, Philippines is Ebola-free.
However, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Pangasinan approved in principle a proposed resolution calling for the creation of a Task Force that will look after the Ebola crisis problem.
Dubbed as the Pangasinan Ebola Task Force, it will be spearheaded by Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr, with personnel from the Provincial Health Office, Sangguniang Panlalawigan, Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, Rural Health Units and municipal health officers among others.
Alarmed by the Ebola virus attacks, 5th District Representative Ranjit Ramos Shahani moved for the immediate approval of the resolution during the last regular session of the SP here.
Since Pangasinan has around 10, 000 to 14, 000 OFWs, Shahani stressed the need to create the task force to prevent the harm that Ebola virus may inflict upon local folks.
On the other hand, Asst. PHO Jeremy Rosario accepted the challenge to be among the members to manage the Ebola Task Force
Noting that “prevention is still better than cure,” Rosario said it is now imperative to adopt pro-active measures to prevent the spread of the virus.
Rosario said the PHO always has its team called the Provincial Health Emergency Response Service which was already activated even at this early.
Rosario said Ebola is moderately contagious because it is not airborne, it is transmitted through direct body contacts especially by the fluids.
It is considered as the worst outbreak in four decades discovered in 1976 in Africa.
Symptoms of this virus include fever, weakness, body pain, headache, diarrhea and vomiting.
The second stage symptoms indicate chest pains and the worst is external and internal bleeding. (ADV)
