Girl burns family’s house

STA. BARBARA– A mentally-challenged girl set their house on fire in Barangay Tuliao here at about 7:30 p.m. of October 22.

Senior Fire Marshall 3 (SFO3) Johnson De Vera, chief of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Sta. Barbara said Lorraine Calimquim first lit the curtain in her room in the second floor of their house before it spread to other parts of the house.

Prior to the incident, Calimquim reportedly throwing a metal object at the neighbor’s house that manufactured candles.

Fernando Calimquim, father of Lorraine, confirmed that her daughter threatened to burn their house earlier that night.

The elder Calimquim said her daughter first lit their sofa and their stove but she was immediately restrained.
The blaze totally burned the whole house including a Hi- Ace Van, three bicycles, appliances, clothing and cabinets, jewelries and electronic gadgets all estimated to cost almost P1. 6 million. (Hilda M. Austria)
