Pangasinan Chess League (PCL) president Juan Vicente Sison credited the GATE chess activities for producing chess players who are now varsity players of top universities in the country and for enabling Pangsinan team grab all medals in the Region 1 Athletic Association (R1AA) last year.

Eugene Torre, Asia’s first Grandmaster, said Pangasinan’s sports development program on chess should be replicated in other provinces in the country. ”Chess is one of the best sports for the youth where they can apply the principles of the game in real life such as sportsmanship, focus, calculation, harmony,” he said.
