SECRETARY Antonio Villar Jr. of the Dangerous Drug Board (DDB) hailed the good news that the Regional Drug Treatment and Rehabilitation Center (RDTRC) of the Department of Health  (DOH) in Bonuan Binloc, Dagupan City is opening its dormitory facilities for in-patients soon.

Villar and Atty. Gonzalo T. Duque, president of the Lyceum-Northwestern University, received the good news when they co-hosted their program “Deretsahan” over cable television Kabaleyan Channel on USATV in Dagupan City last Oct. 4.

RDTRC officer-in-charge Raymundo Basbas informed the two that the center is now ready to admit initially male in-patients as its dormitory facility for men is now completed. The female dormitory is still being completed.

In fact, he said they have now initially nine male in-patients as they still continue to cater out-patients.
The center, which will be under the supervision of Region 1 Medical Center, will cater to patients from Pangasinan, La Union, Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte.

The RDTRC was initiated by former Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr. and continued by his wife, Fourth District Congresswoman Gina de Venecia.

The project was eventually taken over by DOH with some funding from DDB released through Secretary Villar.

Villar hailed the center as a big boon to the campaign of lawmen against illegal drugs because it can help drug dependents return to normal life and be productive again.

It was learned President Benigno Aquino III will inaugurate the project.

Secretary Villar lauded the project since drug dependents who need rehabilitation need not go far anymore in order to seek rehabilitation.
