LINGAYEN— Second District Rep. Leopoldo Bataoil rejected the claim of former Rep. Mark Cojuangco that he (Bataoil) owes his designation as vice-chairman in three House committees and the allocation of infrastructure projects to his district to his affiliation with the Nationalist People’s Coalition.

Bataoil maintained that the projects programmed for the second district were based on the merits and worthiness of the requested projects and subsequent endorsements of the agencies not because merely of his political affiliation with NPC.

He stressed that the new system for allocation of budget for projects adopted by the government today following the scrapping of priority development assistance fund (PDAF), is based largely on the evaluation of line agencies.
Bataoil is presently the vice-chairman of the and members other committees such as public order and safety, good governance.

Meanwhile, Bataoil vehemently denied that he is among the representatives who rejected the proposed salary increase for teachers.

“I’ve been very supportive of the welfare of the teachers,” he said, adding that he came from family of teachers and a co-sponsor of the proposed Magna Carta for day care teachers.

“We will do everything we can to have the bill be approved in the 16th Congress, Bataoil said.

When asked of his political plan in 2016, the congressman maintained he is still focused on keeping his perfect attendance in Congress and work in the committees. ” I believe that’s how it should be – to focus our energies on the mandate given us, to do our job for our people.”

He disclosed that the planned expansion of the Lingayen Baywalk as included in the 2015 General Appropriations, will extend all the way towards the east in San Isidro Norte, Binmaley and to the west toward El Puerto Marina resort. (Johanne R. Macob)
