SHELLFISH BAN OR NO BAN

ALAMINOS CITY,—The local government unit (LGU) here confirmed that the shellfish ban in the city is still up as the red tide alert is still up but it happily reported that it was not reason enough to keep tourists away from the Hundred Islands National Park (HINP).

Sol Tablang, acting tourism officer, confirmed the ban remains (as of last Friday) based on the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) shellfish bulletin No. 24 but the city government is closely guarding the sale of shellfish, particularly Acetes or “alamang” in the city to protect residents and visitors.

“The red tide affected area is quite far from the HNIP, it is located in the boundary of Alaminos and Anda where there are fishpens and cages”, said Tablang.

At least 500 tourists daily were recorded from Friday to Sunday.

“Everything in HINP is normal except that we do not allow vendors to sell shellfishes,” said Tablang.
