UCAAP-PCCL cage tilt starts on Sept. 18

COLLEGE basketball players from nine colleges and universities will soon see action at the annual Jimmy Fernandez Cup that unfolds on September 18 at Dagupan People’s Astrodome.

Joining the 2014 UCAAP-PCCL Jimmy Fernandez Basketball Challenge are UCAAP champion LNU Dagupan City, multi-titlist UPang-Phinma, PIMSAT, AIE, all from Dagupan City plus three from Urdaneta City based LNU, International College of Excellence (ICE) and Urdaneta City University and PCST of Calasiao and PSU of Lingayen.

The winner of the tournament will advance to the PCCL North-Central Luzon skirmishes representing Pangasinan and the victor of the second phase will move on to the southern Luzon area before playing against the best of Metro Manila cagers, and finally the round of 16 teams which PCCL calls “sweet sixteen.”

The annual tourney is a tribute to the late father of Dagupan City Mayor Belen T. Fernandez. Opening ceremony starts at 2:00 p.m. Former PBA player Christian Calaguio is the league commissioner. (JAG Jr.)
