LINGAYEN—Leave it to young minds to create new and wild ideas from recycled materials.

Seven pairs of high school students showcased their talents during the Mr. and Ms. ROYSC (Regional Organization of Youth Science Club) pageant held at the Pangasinan School of Arts and Trades here on September 4, 2014.

On top of this, the 14 students amazed the crowd with their creative designs Barong and Filipiniana made of indigenous and recycled materials.

The outfits were made of tahong shells, broom sticks, seeds, compact discs, styrofoam, garbage bags, newspapers, sacks, coconut husks, old toys, among other recycled and native materials.

Patricia Anne May Nas, a grade 9 pupil, and John Bustine Garcia, grade 8, bested other contestants with their grace and wit.

Both won the Mr. and Ms. Articulate award, eventually winning them the title Mr. and Ms. ROYSC.

“Being a student and a science club officer, I will start with myself by being a good role model, for my fellow students to be influenced,” quipped Nas to the pageant question on how she- as a student and a Science clubber- can promote national wellness.

Other awards given were Mr. and Ms. Photogenic, Best in Talent, Best in Casual Wear, and Best in Creative Wear.

The school-based annual event with the theme “IMMUNATION: Arming Science Clubbers with Healthful Defense Towards National Wellness” was organized to exhibit and develop the students’ skills and intelligence, the school principal, Ferdinand Bravo, said. (Johanne R. Macob/ PNA)
