PPPO eyes another gun registration date

LINGAYEN- Out of some 15,390 licensed firearms in Pangasinan, only 2,642 licenses of firearms were renewed by firearm holders so far this year, leaving some 11,777 firearms still unaccounted for after cancelling licenses of firearms that were surrendered.

And last week, only 763 licensed firearms were renewed during the Philippine National Police’s registration caravan for renewal of license.

With still a high number of estimated firearms with expired licenses in the province, the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO) is considering to schedule a second campaign for the registration of license to own and possess (LTOP) firearm.

Firearms and Explosives Security and Guard Supervision (FESAG) officer Lauro Escobar said the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO) officer-in-charge provincial director Senior Superintendent Reynaldo Biay have proposed to have another LTOP registration next month low turnout in the LTOP registration.

The caravan for the LTOP registration included drug test, neuro-psychiatric test, and finger printing/ biometric of the person, the same process required at Camp Crame in Quezon City.

Escobar said there are about 40,525 gun owners in the province including those in offices as security agencies and he estimated, there are about 1,200 loose firearms deemed to be in the hands of criminals.
As of August 25, 189 loose firearms have been confiscated so far this year. (Johanne R. Macob}
