TWO Pangasinan duathletes led by national team member Robeno Javier topped the 2014 Active Health Duathlon elite race held on September 7 in Porac, Pampanga.

The 29 year-old Javier, a resident of Sto. Tomas, Pangasinan, placed fourth in the 6-km run and 60-km bike event but persevered and overtook three leading runners including frontrunner Benjamin Rana in the second and final footrace of the 4-km run to bag the P10,000 top prize with province mate Robinson Esteves who finished third.

“Tinalo nila ako sa unang takbuhan at sa bike race pero hindi ako nawalan ng tiwala sa aking sarili hanggang sa inabutan ko yong tatlong nangunguna sa akin sa huling takbuhan at iniwan ko sila sa huling kilometro at sinuwerting nanalo,” said Javier.

Javier clocked the three events in 2 hours, 15 minutes and 37 seconds with Rana 12 ticks adrift that earned him P6,000. The lanky Esteves had 2 hours, 16 minutes and 11 seconds and collected P4,000. The event was participated in by more than 800 runners. (JAG, Jr.)
