DAGUPAN CITY – Some 30 Nego-Karts (Negosyo sa Kariton) will soon be made available to ambulant vendors in Dagupan  by the Department of Labor and Employment  (DOLE) in Region I  in partnership with the city government.

The project, which seeks to improve the earnings of street vendors and at the same time promote local products, was endorsed by Mayor Belen Fernandez.

After the 30 carts are allocated to deserving street vendors, DOLE vowed to turn over 30 more, said Mayor Fernandez during a dialogue on Sept. 2 at the City Museum with the street vendor beneficiaries.

Acting City Social Welfare and Development Officer Leah Aquino said the street vendors who will receive the Nego-Karts were selected through a series of screening processes.

She said the beneficiaries will also be assisted through seminars and trainings in order to develop their production skills, entrepreneurship and business management so that they will really succeed.

In support of these vendors, the city government will also provide them uniformed aprons and will assign an area somewhere in the central business district for them to ply their trade.

On top of these, the City Health Office (CHO) will issue them food handler’s cards after they have undergone training on food management practices and standard sanitary procedures.

DOLE Regional Director Grace Ursua said the Nego-Kart project being implemented in different cities nationwide, seeks to help ambulant vendors improve their income while promoting local products as well as tourism.

Fernandez expressed her gratitude to DOLE for its extensive programs and projects that continuously benefit Dagupan City, adding that for its Nego-Kart program, the agency is helping a lot in improving the lives of Dagupeno vendors. (CIO)
