KBP’s ‘Oplan Broadcastreeing’

DAGUPAN CITY – The Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) Pangasinan Chapter, the Dagupan City Government and other national agencies joined recently hands to plant some 500 coconut seedlings at the Tondaligan Beach in Barangay Bonuan Gueset last August 30 in a bid to combat flooding and mitigate effects of global warming.

Jay Mendoza, KBP Pangasinan chapter president, said “Oplan Broadcastreeing” is the organization’s urban greening initiative to encourage local broadcasters to be “environmental warriors”.

Leduina Co, Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer (PENRO) explained that the coconut trees will also help absorb carbon emissions in the atmosphere while Mayor Belen Fernandez lauded KBP’s initiative “as the city’s gift to the next generation, providing them a better environment. Magtanim tayo para mapaganda ang ating kapaligiran,” said Fernandez.

A total of 2,000 coconut seedlings have already been planted along the 5-kilometer lateral length of the city’s shoreline. Among the government agencies and groups that participated in this activity were the DENR, DILG, Department of Education, Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO), City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), PNP Dagupan, Philippine Navy, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), PhilHealth, Philippine Red Cross and the local barangay council.
