On the same occasion held at the Pangasinan Training and Development Center last September 3, the Department of Agriculture granted livestock livelihood assistance of P4-million to seven farmer and livestock associations in Pangasinan in support of the Provincial Livestock Livelihood Assistance Program of the Province of Pangasinan.

Gov. Espino has expressed delight over DA’s program of making loans available for the raising of native pigs, chickens and goats as this has complemented the provincial government’s project of raising backyard animals where they have encouraged Pangasinense families to engage in since he became the chief executive of Pangasinan.

The governor noted that the livelihood program of the provincial government has been successfully carried out listing the amount of loan assistance already granted to a total of P20-million.

He added that even the Central Bank has also offered loan assistance to as much as P100-million to the province for livestock projects where beneficiaries can avail of loans without collateral as the province’s surety share of P10-million with the bank has stood as collateral.

He further stressed that the provincial government has been a two-time awardee of the Central Bank for the successful implementation of the Credit Surety Fund program for effecting a 100 percent repayment of loans.

With the mandate of DA to make a sustainable livestock production to sustain food security like the production of milk, meats and oats, the P4-million loan assistance was granted to Pangasinan to support the identified livestock commodities.

Initially, DA will award 280 heads of gilt (native female pig) and 100 heads of boars (native male pigs). Technical assistants will assist the beneficiaries on the proper care of the animals in the breeding stations of the province in Dasol, San Quintin, and Mangatarem. /ADV
