DTI warns OFWs on balikbayan boxes

By September 21, 2014Business, News

WITH the Christmas season fast approaching, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) warned Pangasinan overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and residents anew about fly-by-night cargo consolidators and freight forwarders that continue to operate and pilfer their balikbayan boxes intended for their relatives here.

Peter Mangabat, DTI provincial director said the senders should consider sending their balikbayan boxes only through DTI –Philippine Shippers Bureau (DTI-PSB) -accredited sea cargo consolidator/freight forwarder companies to ensure their fast and reliable delivery. The accredited companies, he said, have counterparts duly accredited by DTI-PSB (for sea shipment) or Civil Aeronautics Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) if by air. Senders may verify the company name of the Philippine sea forwarder counterpart at www.dti.gov.ph.

He urged families to file complaints on pilferage or lost item and non-delivery of balikbayan boxes at the Philippine Shippers Bureau in Makati City or at the DTI-Pangasinan Provincial Office in Dagupan City. (PIA-VHS)
