EDUARDO S. Maramba, president of Fishpond Owners, Operators and Fisherflok Association (of Dagupan City Inc. FOOFADCI), has been elected president of the National Federation of Fish Producers’ Association of the Philippines in an organizational meeting held at ALSONS’ office in Pasong Tamo Extension, Makati City.

Maramba was accompanied by FOOFADCI Chairman Alfredo M. Dawana and Sec. Gen. Ramon Santillan in the Makati meeting.

His election was hailed by leaders of the Philippine marine industry as the start of the resuscitation of the country’s fishing sector, described as “ailing” in spite of the archipelago’s fish-rich 7,107 islands.

Former Speaker Jose de Venecia, Jr., FOOFADCI’s adviser, congratulated Maramba and his team, saying their leadership will inspire fish stakeholders to contribute to the Philippine economy.

Mayor Belen Fernandez, an adviser of the association, congratulated Maramba from the US when word of Maramba’s election reached her.

Maramba thanked his co-officers for their expression of trust and support even as he vowed to use his talents, experience and modest resources to push for new growth areas in the industry.

At the FOOFADCI, Maramba and chairman Dawana along with other officers and members, created strong awareness on the fishing industry’s problems through a series of workshops and seminars, other media forums. The group also made regular inspection tours of Dagupan’s rivers to check on illegal fishing methods including fishpens.

FOOFADCI, committed to the clean-up of the river system, checked the proliferation of illegal fishpens, car-car and dynamite fishing. It was in the frontline of the world famous bangus festival this year which was visited by thousands of frolickers from all over the world.

During the administration of Benjamin S. Lim, FOOFADCI held a successful Bangus summit at the People’s Astrodome attended by more than 300 stakeholders.
