COJUANGCO UPDATES

FORMER Pangasinan Fifth District Rep. Mark Cojuangco said he hopes he gets the blessings and support of Dangerous Drugs Board Secretary Antonio “Bebot” Villar Jr. in his 2016 gubernatorial bid, which he said would really make a big difference.

“Definitely Manong Bebot’s support would be a big boost to my candidacy,” Cojuangco said in a news conference Wednesday at the Star Plaza Hotel in Dagupan City.

Cojuangco said when he first ran as congressman, it was Villar, known as the kingpin in Pangasinan politics, who strongly supported him. Villar founded Biskeg na Pangasinan, a strong alliance of political leaders.

He said when he ran as congressman, he also carried in his certificate of nomination under his political party affiliation the Biskeg na Pangasinan, aside from the Nationalist People’s Coalition which Cojuangco’s father, business tycoon Eduardo “Danding” Cojuangco founded. Danding and Villar are close friends.

When the elder Cojuangco ran for president in 1992, Villar campaigned for him vigorously in Pangasinan.

“If Manong Bebot (Villar) gives me his blessing, of course, it would really be  a great honor if he would support me. I hope Manong Bebot would help me,” he added.

Cojuangco said when he started in Pangasinan politics in 1998, Villar was among those who gave their blessings to him.

“It’s an emotional thing for me. I hope he would bless this time my initiative to run for governor. I hope I would get his blessing. That would be a big thing to me,” he added.

Cojuangco’s wife, Fifth District Rep. Kimi Cojuangco and Villar’s wife, former Sto. Mayor Vivien Villar, are also bosom friends.

Meanwhile, Cojuangco is very delighted over the “very warm reception” given by the people to him whenever he goes around the province.

He said the support to his plan is growing from the top to the bottom leadership.

“Their declaration is very solid and consistently repeated, so (it’s) very established already,” he added.

Cojuangco is set with his medical-surgical missions in all the districts in Pangasinan.

“We will do it one district at a time. We want order. We want to make sure everybody is well taken care of before we move to the next,” he added.
