Bataoil hits growing number of rogue cops

LINGAYEN— Second District (Pangasinan) Rep. Leopoldo Bataoil lambasted the growing number of policemen reported as perpetrators of heinous crimes, describing them as a “disgrace to the noble profession” even as he rallied the communities to continue trusting the men and women in uniform.

Referring to the number of policemen who have been tagged recently as perpetrators of murders, kidnapping and robbery, he said “These hoodlooms in uniform must be charged administratively and criminally, dismissed from the service and rot in jail with the common criminals without special treatment.”

Bataoil, a retired police general and former spokesman of the Philippine National Police, said a full blast investigation by law enforcers must be conducted, leaving no stone unturned, to expose the shenanigans of rogue policemen.

Swift action against them will serve as a strong warning and deterrence against those who try to emulate their dishonorable ways, he added.

“Should the community still trust the police? Yes, let us continue trusting our police,” Bataoil said.

He said there are still a lot more of the men and women in uniform who are heroic in many ways, who live modestly and honestly within their means, who enforce the law without fear or favor, who touch people’s lives in special ways and who are willing to risk their lives so that others may live.

Many more of them do their jobs silently without fanfare, without expecting reward or recognition in return, without regard for their safety and without asking why should they commit their lives in service to God, country and people, he added.

Over the past weeks, the criminal activities of PNP personnel hogged the headlines the latest of which was the alleged involvement of about 12 policemen in the EDSA P2 million “hulidap” robbery-kidnapping incident.

A policeman also confessed to having been a hired gun and killed, Enzo Pastor, a racing champion but later recanted.

In Pangasinan, a policeman murdered four persons, three of them were teachers and wounded three other teachers inside the campus of the Pangasinan National High School in Lingayen town. (Tita Roces)
