Twelve universities, colleges battle for UCAAP pennant

BASKETBALL players and enthusiasts of twelve universities and colleges in Pangasinan will see action in a series of games under the auspices of the newly formed University College Athletic Association of Pangasinan (UCAAP) on September 16-18 for the right to eventually join the Philippines Colleges Champions League.

Chris T. Calaguio, Ednas School coach and former player of the San Miguel team in the Philippine Basketball Association, is the games lead commissioner.

The twelve are the University of Pangasinan-Phinma, Lyceum Northwestern University, Pangasinan State University,  Philippine College of Science and Technology, International College of Excellence, Lyceum Northwestern University-Urdaneta, Asian Institute of E-Commerce, Panpacific University of Urdaneta, and the Perpetual Help University of Malasiqui.

Dubbed as Mayor Belen T. Fernandez Cup, the grand opening of the games will be graced by basketball stars of Pangasinan playing in the PBA.

Calguio said there will be single elimination and single round robin after which the two winners will fight for the finals.

The champion team will represent the Dagupan City-Pangasinan Division in the regional finals of the Northern-Central League of champions.

The games will be hosted by the Dagupan City government and LNU, said Calguio.
