Still no suspects in businessman’s ambush slay

WITH no established suspects to pursue, the investigators looking into the killing of ambush of Dagupan businessman Kiran Michandani, 33 years old, and his driver and bodyguard Edwin Ferrer are facing a blank wall.

Michandani was shot to death by still unknown suspects in Castro Sarmiento Village at barangay Bolosan at the house of his uncle, Ashok Vasandani, a known philanthropist on Sunday morning, where he had been staying for almost a month.

The victims were reportedly leaving the village when the suspects armed with long and high powered firearm, as evidenced by the empty slugs found at the scene of the crime, intercepted their car and instantly fired at the victims.

Michandani, reportedly tried to escape by getting out of his car but the suspects followed him to where he laid and shot him again.

“Michandani sustained gun shot in his neck and three shots in the back of his head which caused his imminent death while his driver was shot in his arm and is now recovering”, said P/Supt. Christopher Abrahano, Dagupan police chief.

There were confusing statements from witnesses who claimed the assailants rode a motorcycle, while another said they boarded a van, still another said they rode a car.

“We are still determining whether the assailants are riding in tandem because with their alleged weapons, they could not have carried that in a motorcycle”.

The police are looing into all angles including his business activities, his known personal enemies, to determine the motive for the crime.

“We are considering every angle in our investigation, such as his business dealings, personal life and some cases where he was involved in blotter complaints”, said Abrahano.

The provincial intelligence division and investigation division are also aiding the DCPS in the probe. P/Sr. Superintendent Reynaldo Biay admitted that the early solution of the case is a challenge to him as the newly designated OIC provincial director.

Meanwhile, the authorities are also examining the recovered substance from Michandani’s car even as the police are considering filing charges against the driver/bodyguard for the reportedly unlicensed gun recovered in his custody. (Hilda M. Austria)
