DAGUPAN CITY – Mayor Belen T. Fernandez, along with City Engineer Virginia Rosario and Tourism Development Coordinator Sharon Maramba, completed a successful dry run on the city government’s new tourism project called Island Tours that will soon cruise the different island barangays of the city.

The dry run was held in preparation for the launching of the Island Tours in October simultaneous with the opening of the Dagupan Product Center and ‘Rimat Ti Amianan’ or Treasures of the North trade fair.

The three island cruise boats depicting culture of the Philippines, China and the United State of America will ferry tourists along the scenic Dagupan’s island barangays Salapingao, Pugaro, Calmay and Carael.

It will also pass through barangay Lucao and Sitio Tocok to view  the city’s designated oyster zones.

The tour boats can accommodate up to 25 passengers and has a floor area of 40 square meters.

The construction of the cruise boats was sourced from donations by Unilever Phillipines, Mondelez Philippines (formerly Kraft Foods Philippines) and Procter and Gamble, in response to the appeal of Mayor Fernandez.

She said that this project will not only promote tourism but also provide livelihood opportunities for Dagupeños living in the island barangays.

She has already instructed the City Social Welfare and Development Office to organize a group of women who will cook fresh seafood and other delicacies for local and foreign tourists visiting their island villages.

“We will not only offer our visitors Dagupan bangus but also other seafoods like malaga, talakitok, alangat and crabs,” Fernandez said. (CIO)
