DAGUPAN City’ government’s efforts to promote “Dagupan Bangus” gets a boost from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

Under a new memorandum of agreement between the city government and DTI, the latter will provide P898,735 worth of equipment and machinery to the city that will include a heavy duty stove, two smoking machines, five platform trolleys, four stainless steel working tables, two vacuum packaging machines, and three chest freezer units.

The new set of equipment will be used by bangus processors to help in the production of bangus that will increase the producers’ productivity and competitiveness in local and international markets.

Mayor Belen T. Fernandez signed the agreement last August 20 committing the city government to the implementation of the Shared Service Facility (SSF) program.

The DTI SSF is a program of the DTI that provides Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) access to better technology and equipment. This is the second SSF given to the city. A similar facility was given to the Pangasinan-Dagupan Bangus Processors Association last year.

Natalia Basto-Dalaten, Business Development Division Chief of DTI Pangasinan, said the provision of the equipment is in line with the commitment of DTI to assist the city of Dagupan in the development of the bangus industry.

“The equipment to be given to bangus processors to ensure that the processed bangus meets international sanitary standards,” said Dalaten.

DTI will further collaborate with the city government on the National Industry Cluster Capacity Enhancement Project (NICCEP), to train bangus stakeholders in a series of capability-building seminars to enhance their individual capacity. (CIO/ By Patrick Cendreda)
