PRESIDENT Benigno Aquino III recently approved the appointment of Mayor Belen T. Fernandez as the new chairperson of the Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC) in Region I.

She becomes the first Dagupan mayor to lead the council.

The mayor’s official appointment paper was presented to her by Acting Regional Director of the Department of the Interior and Local Government in Region I Julie Daquioag  and DILG Dagupan Director Rhoderick Dawis last July 21 at the City Museum.

She succeeds Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr.

Fernandez said peace and order problems related to illegal drugs will be a priority in her agenda.

The mayor is a two-time recipient of the national award of the Dangerous Drugs Board for her efforts in the anti-drug campaign and recently as “Best Local Chief Executive” by PNP Region 1.

Fernandez thanked the President and DILG Secretary and chair of the National Peace and Order Council Mar Roxas for trusting her to lead the RPOC.
