ZERO CASUALTIES, NO DAMAGES

LINGAYEN – Thank God, Pangasinan was spared by Typhoon Glenda.

This summed up the final report of Fernando De Guzman, officer-in-charge of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) to the anxious populace that braced itself for the worst last Wednesday.

There were no damaged houses reported and there was no storm surge that affected coastal communities.

All roads were passable and there were no damages to agriculture and, instead, “the rains brought about by Typhoon Glenda were beneficial to upland farmers,” the Provincial Agriculturist office reported.

BLUE CODE ALERT

The PDRRMC was in blue code alert status from Tuesday until Wednesday when province was declared under storm signal no. 3.

CARTOONnews 140720All local disaster and risk reduction councils down to the barangay officials and the partner government agencies were on the alert and ready for emergency response.

Gov. Amado T. Espino Jr. closely monitored the preparation and operation of the PDRRMC until Thursday when Typhoon Glenda was confirmed to have exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

Some 61 families from Dasol, Infanta, Bolinao and Sual were evacuated to five evacuation centers as ‘Glenda’ exited and as a preemptive measure for possible storm surge as their houses are located in coastal areas. They were allowed to return to their homes after the storm signal was lifted.

De Guzman said the water level of San Roque Dam as of Thursday was more than 234 meters above sea level, still 45 meters below the 280 meters spilling level mark.
Some 2, 000 relief goods from the provincial government were packed for distribution on Thursday for affected families.

“We are also preparing for another weather disturbance monitored by weather forecasters”, said De Guzman “but we hope that we will be spared once again”.
