BENEFITS OF SOLAR ENERGY

HERE is a bit of good news for residences that use solar panels.

The Dagupan Electric Corporation (Decorp) has adopted the net metering system (NMS) that will allow customers that use solar panels to pay less or nothing for their electric consumption.

“This is one way for us to help reduce the electricity bill of our customers since many are already using solar generated power”, Atty. Randy Castilan, legal officer of Decorp, merely pointed out in an earlier interview.

Castilan said since the customers generate their own power source, they are no longer 100% dependent on the power from Decorp.

“Ultimately, they can reduce their electric bills or even zero it out if they can supply their entire load,” he pointed out.

The NMS allows customers generating power through solar panels that do not exceed 100 kilowatt to sell their excess generated power or electricity to Decorp and in turn contributes to the grid in order to lower the price of generation charge.

Although there had been a lot of inquiries about the system, Decorp has received only one application so far.

“If all the customers with solar panels contribute to the grid then the generation charge will decrease as the supply increases while the demand decreases since customers generate their own power already”, Castilan added.

Qualified Decorp customers are required to submit a formal application because the system can only be installed by Decorp.

To qualify, applicant should be an existing Decorp customer with solar panels generating electricity not exceeding 100 kilowatt while non-Decorp customers should apply first with the company’s services alongside the application for NMS.  (Hilda M. Austria)
