Couples exchange “I dos”

MASS WEDDING

ANOTHER  batch of seventy live-in couples from different barangays in this city exchanged “I dos” in a mass civil wedding ceremony solemnized by Mayor Belen T. Fernandez last June 27 at the University of Luzon.

The mayor cited the importance of legalizing marital unions of live-in couples as family members, especially for children, so they can enjoy benefits provided by the government such as PhilHealth and social security insurance.

The University of Luzon sponsored the mass wedding event as part of its corporate social responsibility program. The university prepared the wedding venue, covered the costs of CENOMAR (Certificates of No Marriage), and held a grand reception for the new couples at the UL Multi-Purpose Hall.

Present during the ceremony who stood as sponsors were Atty. Liberato C. Reyna, Jr. and University of Luzon Executive Vice President and former City Councilor Luis Samson Jr.
The city government paid the fees for the marriage license and pre-marriage counseling certificate after attending the seminar.

Students and faculty members of the College of Business Administration and HRM-Tourism Department headed by Dr. Amalia G. Dela Cruz prepared the wedding reception.

City Population Officer Alex P. De Venecia said the other colleges and universities in the city will be invited to co-sponsor future mass weddings. – CIO/Leziel C. Aquino)
