LINGAYEN—Cacao or cocoa will soon be among the products that Pangasinan will be promoting following the oath taking of the officers of the newly organized Cacao and Coffee Growers Association, Inc. of Pangasinan during the courtesy call held on June 11 at the Governor’s Office.

The organization which took the oath of office administered by Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr. consists of Pangasinense members representing the Pangasinan Chapter but whose members are considered automatic members of the national chapter Cacao Foundation of the Philippines.

The organization headed by Conrado Soriano, from Mangaldan town, was formed after he discovered the probability of growing cacao in the province through a farm he has planted in Mangaldan.

Soriano who also maintains a cacao farm in Dasol through a joint venture said he wants to spread the information to fellow farmers who might be interested to venture into cacao growing as there has been an increase in the demand for the product.

Furthermore, the province through the Provincial Argricultural Office also provides seeds, fertilizers and they have also introduced the use of organic fertilizers.

Gov. Espino disclosed that the province had just released corn seeds during the previous harvest season and announced that another distribution of certified seeds for rice will be held on June 18.

Meanwhile, Cocoa Foundation of the Phils. Inc. treasurer Dandy S. Calvez thanked Gov. Espino for the support he has extended to the organization.
