DAGUPAN CITY – Some  200 college students have been given the opportunity to pursue their ambitions and aspirations in life as scholars of the Dagupan City government.

City Social Welfare and Development Officer-In-Charge Leah L. Aquino said the city’s scholars are enrolled in four-year courses at Colegio De Dagupan, University of Pangasinan, University of Luzon and Lyceum Northwestern University.

The scholars that qualified are residents of the city with a grade in high school not less than 80 or its equivalent and no failing or incomplete grades in any subject.

In addition, the scholars presented proofs of their parent’s economic means.

The scholarship awards P10,000 financial assistance.

Only one scholar from a family can qualify in the shcolarship program of the Fernandez administration.

Mayor Fernandez disclosed that the scholarships being given to the students is not full because she wanted the parents to share in the burden of sending their children to college.

Fernandez guaranteed that under her program Building The Future, the scholars will be supported by the city until they complete their four-year studies in college.

This year, the city government allotted P3M for the program. Mayor Fernandez said she is inclined to increase the number of scholars to 500 next year.

Meanwhile, the Alagang Balon Dagupan program of Fernandez recently distributed school supplies and hygiene kits to pupils in the 44 Day Care Centers of the city with combined enrollment to date of some 2,600.- (CIO/(J.C.Bacani)
