MALASIQUI—Some 200 out of school youths (OSY) are undergoing a three-month training by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) funded by the municipal government here.

The enrolled OSYs, high school graduates who were unable to pursue collegiate education due to financial constraints, will be awarded certificates from TESDA which could be useful as reference for job opportunities overseas.

The local government appropriated P.5 million for the training program, which also covers guaranteed local employment.

“The training which started last week will last for two months,” Mayor Armando Domantay Sr. said.

After two months, the training will continue at the National College of Science and Technology (NCST) in Cavite where the trainees will have their hands-on experience on factory work.

Malasiqui and NCST signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) ensuring local employment in factories for the OSY trainees after completing the course.

“We are giving the OSY in our town an opportunity to work and possibly through this they could earn enough money to continue their studies,” Domantay said.–Hilda M. Austria
