Fugitive drug lord recaptured

URDANETA CITY—A notorious drug dealer, ranked number one in the list of drug personalities in Rosales town, has been recaptured by the Urdaneta City police on May 31 in Barangay Raymundo, Ramos town in Tarlac, four days after he escaped from jail.

P/Supt. Jeff Fanged, city police chief, said the suspect, Cornelio Obedoza alias Sonny, was re-arrested by the police team in coordination with the provincial intelligence office and local police in Tarlac.

Obedoza was initially arrested in a buy-bust operation with another suspect, Roger Oliveros, who is also in this city’s drug target list.

The two were detained in a temporary cell prior to their transfer to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology but their transfer was postponed pending the issuance by a judge of their commitment order.

The two escaped on May 27 but Oliveros was immediately arrested after a chase by responding police officers in a creek.

The escape took place after the two had their breakfast and their handcuffs were removed by their guard on duty.

Within a 10-minute time period, while the guard was busy recording an incident in the blotter, Oliveros and Obedosa took the chance to escape by destroying the ceiling of their cell.

Fanged had requested the city government to renovate the station’s detention cell that could no longer be used because of its dilapidated state since 2007.
