FORMER barangay chairman Lilia Yasar of Pantal in Dagupan is in hot water for cutting mangroves in her fishpond without a permit from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

A recent letter of Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) Leduina Co to Mayor Belen Fernandez confirmed the Yasar’s violation two months ago in Sitio Guibang, Barangay Pantal.

The Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) is set to summon Yasar for administrative hearings on the case.

Yasar will be charged with violating of Section 21 of Republic Act 7160 if she fails to justify her action.

The mayor asked Co to provide an update on the action taken by PENRO on the mangrove cutting done by Yasar who was also cited earlier for setting up illegal fish pens.

An inspection report submitted to PENRO by Amalia Bautista of CENRO confirmed the presence of mangrove stumps within the area in question.

The incumbent officials of Pantal led by Chairman Julie Ann Perez accompanied Bautista in the inspection.–LVM
