ALLIES’ RESIGNATIONS

SECOND District Rep. Leopoldo Bataoil has clarified that the resignation of two provincial board members from his district from the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) was their own independent decision.

Bataoil added that he believes that their move will not affect him and his links with the NPC.

Speaking at the KBP forum last week, Bataoil said he respects the decision of Board Members Raul Sison and Nestor Reyes to bolt from NPC as they have their “own free will”.

The two joined Board Members Alfonso Bince Jr. of the Sixth District, Danilo Uy of the Fifth District and Angel Baniqued of the Third District in signing a letter of resignation addressed to NPC chairman Faustino Dy and NPC president Frisco San Juan.

“In my district, the board members, mayors and councilors are free to decide on their own,” said Bataoil.

Bataoil, a close ally of Gov. Amado Espino Jr. is reportedly one of those being eyed to join the gubernatorial race in 2016 when Espino completes his third and final term.

Their resignation is seen as a consequence of the unexpected declaration of former Fifth District Mark Cojuangco to run for governor in 2016.

The five, however, failed to convince any more of their colleagues affiliated with the NPC to sign the letter of resignation even if Bince said a sixth board member was to join them.

Cojuangco is the provincial chairman of the NPC, where Espino, Vice Governor Jose Ferdinand Calimlim and Bataoil belong.

Bataoil declined to either confirm or deny whether he running for governor in the 2016 election saying he does not want to be affected by the developing political situations in Pangasinan and would just like to focus on his work in Congress, where he keeps a perfect attendance, and in his district.—LVM
