Students test for 100 scholarships

SOME 827 high school graduates took the Academic Scholarship Qualifying Examination to bid for the province’s 100 scholarships.

The examination was held at the Pangasinan National High School Social Hall in Lingayen and the Juan Macaraeg National High School Social Hall in Binalonan town.

The nine students who graduated as valedictorians automatically qualified for the scholarship in the 100 slots allotted by the province for this SY 2014-2015.

The examinees met the criteria that included 85 general grade average and the P130,000  and below annual income of their parents or guardians.

Dr. Irmina B. Francisco, supervising administrative chief, said the provincial government’s Provincial Scholarship Fund Board (PSFB) is a testimony to the priority that Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr. places on education.

Under the province’s scholarship program, the 100 scholars are free to choose any four-year and five-year degree courses (except BS Nursing).

The scholars will receive P8,000 per semester provided that he/she maintains  85 as general average and an 82 average for the courses of engineering, architecture and accountancy, and has no grade of 80 below.

Failure to submit the grades after the semester end is ground for forfeiture of scholarship benefits, she added.

Result of the exam will be released on May 26.
