A DENTIST working at the national government-owned Region 1 Medical Center (R1MC) was arrested by the Dagupan police while in the act of buying illegal drugs from a minor in a Muslim community in Barangay Bonuan Tondaligan at around 12:20 a.m. last April 28.

P/Supt. Christopher Abrahano, city police chief, identified the suspected buyer as Dr. Jose Teofilo del Prado Jr, 47, married, resident of #9 Poblacion Norte, Sta. Barbara.

Del Prado was caught in possession of two open plastic sachets containing suspected shabu residue, one improvised tooter, three aluminum strip foils with suspected shabu residue, one lighter and one improvised needle.

Prior to his arrest, the suspect was spotted in the Muslim area, a known illegal drug trading area, on board a red Toyota Vios with plate number ZNX 915 and buying shabu being handed by a minor.

This prompted the patrolling police to approach and accost him but he sped off and a brief chase ensued.

He was cornered in front of the Justice Hall in Tondaligan.

A case for violation of Republic Act 9165 was filed Tuesday against him.—Tita Roces
