LINGAYEN—The Philippine Merchant Marine School (PMMS) in Las Piñas topped this year’s Petron Ladies Beach Volleyball Tournament second leg, held last May 1-2 at the Lingayen beachfront as part of the Pista’y Dayat events.

The winning team, composed of Nicole Bañas and Nao Segawa, beat the taller team from De La Salle University (DLSU) 18-21; 21-17; and 15-11, during the final game on May 2.

The duo Bañas and Segawa said beach volleyball is harder than traditional volleyball given the challenges of moving in sand rather than on concrete surface.

The champions received P20,000 and a trophy; the first runner up, P10,000; and certificates and P4,000 consolation prize to the other participating teams.

The other teams were DLSU-Alumni, University of the East-Alumni, Pangasinan State University, Pangasinan Provincial Government, University of Luzon, Team Baguio, and Team Lingayen, and another team from PMMS.

The competition, the fifth held for the annual Pista’y Dayat celebration, was organized by the provincial government with Petron and 2nd District Rep. Leopoldo Bataoil as sponsors.– Johanne R. Macob
