Pangasinense is new archbishop in Ilocos Sur

LINGAYEN—Bishop Marlo Peralta, who hails from San Carlos City, has been appointed by Pope Francis as the new archbishop of Nueva Segovia, Ilocos Sur.

In recognition of Peralta’s achievement, the provincial board passed last Monday a resolution congratulating him for “serving as a symbol of hope and inspiration among Pangasinenses.”

“Archbishop Peralta will bring to the entire province of a Pangasinan a missionary and full stewardship of the catholic community and will definitely be a good shepherd to his flock,” the resolution says.

PAPAL CANONIZATION

Meanwhile, 2nd District Rep. Leopoldo Bataoil, in a talk to newsmen last week, shared his experience when he witnessed the recent historic canonization of Pope John Paul II and John XXIII.

“I cannot get the words to describe the feeling to be there, right on the ground, to be there in the canonization,” remarked Bataoil.

The lawmaker disclosed that the canonization particularly of Pope John Paul II has personal meaning to him as his daughter, Carmela, when she was three years old, was kissed by the Pope in Papua New Guinea in January 1995 during the World Youth Day.

“This year Pope John Paul II became a saint and this is also the year when my daughter Carmela graduated from college, kaya this year’s full of blessings,” he concluded.–Johanne R. Macob
