ALAMINOS CITY–The Hundred Islands National Park (HINP), the iconic tourism destination in Pangasinan, posted a 66 percent increase of tourist arrival from January to April this year compared to the same period last year.

Mayor Arthur Celeste said the increase has been good for the local economy and development projects are continuously being undertaken to maintain the momentum of tourist influx.

He noted that during the Holy week alone, from Maundy Thursday to  Easter Sunday, there were about 23,000 visitors against only 11,000 last year.

The city government recently refurbished facilities in the main islands and a Zip Line that connects several islands is set to be finished  in two months.

At the same time, Celeste said that the local residents are still hoping that the planned Alaminos Airport, which was started during the time of his predecessor, will be continued by the Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC).

He said access via air travel will attract more tourists to Alaminos, a city on the southwestern part of Pangasinan.–LVM
