PANGASINAN’S professional and elite amateur cyclists and others from neighbouring provinces will see action in the Sual National High School Grand Reunion Bicycle Road Race 2014 on April 26.

The chief organizer, Gerald Valdez,  said the event will traverse key places in the western part of the province and will be run in four categories: elite-pro, master, grandmaster (140-kilometer event), and the 50-kilometer race exclusively for accredited manager and executive riders.

The one day affair will start and end at the town’s national high school with more than P150,000 in cash prizes, plus trophies and medals.

“This is a nostalgic occasion for all of us who graduated from our beloved town’s alma mater starting from 1968 up to this year,” said Valdez who just flew in from San Diego to officially organize the event.

“There will be other activities aside from the cycling event and parade,” he added.

MAPANDAN

Meanwhile, in Mapandan, the visiting cyclists from Metro Manila continued to rule the province’s bikathons by winning the BikeBakan ed Mapandan held on April 12 in a 1-2-3 fashion finish among 47 participants.

Paranaque son Ysmael Gendrano took charge this time by outsprinting his breakaway partner and Excellent Noodles teammate, four-time winner Romeo Camingao, in the last 350 meters to clinch the victory. The duo clocked the 110.5-kilometer relatively flat course in two hours, 48 minutes and 42 seconds.

Richard Labine came in far third while Mangaldanon and two-time Olympian Jazy Garcia outsprinted the eight-man third group for fourth. Rounding up the ten were: Jerry Aquino (Manila); David Perez (Capas, Tarlac); Del Biola (Cuyapo, N.E.); Ricky Zabala (Laoac); Benjie Nituan (Binalonan); Adrian Malanum (Mangaldan).–JAGJr.
