Pista’y Dayat packed with sports fun

LINGAYEN–This year’s Pista’y Dayat (sea festival) is packed with various sports activities, with both fun games and serious competitions open to everyone.

Modesto Operania, the provincial government’s sports coordinator, said apart from the usual sports activities conducted in previous years, new games have been added such as parasailing and banana boat rides on May 1, the main day of the Pista’y Dayat.

Today, April 26, there will be a skimboarding clinic, Rubik’s cube competition, and beach parlor games.

May 1 will feature boxing and the first day of the awaited women beach volleyball, which will be concluded the following day.

At least six teams from Manila and six teams from Pangasinan are expected to compete in the volleyball games, said Operania.

There will also be a dragon boat exhibition at the Banaga Bridge in Bugallon on May 1.

The province will then conduct its third triathlon competition on May 3, to begin and end at the Lingayen beachfront.

Operania said that they are expecting around 200-250 participants from different provinces in the triathlon.

SINGING CONTEST

Meanwhile, theTakayan na Dayew, Pangasinan’s version of the 1970’s hit singing contest Tawag ng Tanghalan, will take centerstage anew on April 28, gathering 22 promising musical talents from around the province.

The annual singing contest, a component activity of the Pista’y Dayat celebration, will be held at Capitol Plaza.

The best amateur singers from municipalities and cities in the province will vie in two categories, Babalulaki tan Maririkit (for 13-22 years old) and Ugugaw (for 6-12 years old) .

Pangasinan Provincial Chorale President Ferlynor Aranda said the finalists were selected from a field of 85 who auditioned in three venues – Leopoldo Sison Auditorium, Alaminos City (April 7); Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center Alley building (April 8); and SM City Rosales Event Center (April 9).—Johanne R.
