No intercession for arrested drug suspects, say

HERE’S a piece of advice to arrrested dug dealers’ kin who think that the city’s politicians can intercede for their relatives.

Councilor Jose Netu Tamayo, chairman of the Sangguniang Panlungsod’s committee on public information, has this to say: “We want to tell you that we can not do any thing to help you.”

He noted that relatives of drug suspects arrested by the police in the campaign against the illegal trade in Dagupan City always seek intervention from members of the city council as well as the office of the mayor.

Tamayo stressed that the local government, since Mayor Belen Fernandez took seat in July last year, has declared full support to the re-intensified campaign of the local police  and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) against the illegal drug trade.

Dagupan has been named an illegal drug hub by authorities.

“You ought to know that we city officials can not do anything to help you under those circumstances as nobody can influence justice,” said Tamayo, a lawyer.

He reminded the relatives of those arrested to seek legal help instead either through private lawyers or the Public Assistance Office (PAO).

“What we can only do is to pray to God so that your kin can get justice that he or she deserves.” Tamayo said.–LVM
