Mayor Belen bares plan to boost swimming

MAYOR Belen T. Fernandez announced that swimming competitions will be included  in the celebration of Dagupan Bangus Festival to boost her sports development program.

She made the announcment after she launched the two-day Speedo G. League Swim Cup April 12 and 13 at the city’s Olympic-size Swimming Pool participated in by some 140 professional swimmers from the Cordillera Autonomous Region and Northern and Central Luzon.

“We will introduce more water sports programs to inspire kids to go into sports,” she said.

The city government is already hosting free swimming lessons for some 6,000 children that aims to encourage them not only to develop their skills in the sport but also to prepare them in times of disaster.

The event was chaired by Councilor Alvin Coquia in partnership with the Philippine Swimming Inc., Speedo Philippines and the Department of Education. (CIO)
