THE annual Mapandan bikefest, which has been put on hold for eight long years due to financial constraints, is back and will hit the road on April 12 in time for the town’s fiesta celebration.

Mayor Maximo Calimlim Jr. said the bikefest, dubbed this year as “Bikebakan ed Mapandan”, will start and finish in Mapandan traversing some barangays of the town, San Jacinto and Manaoag towns with an approximate distance of 110 kilometers.

The race, sponsored this time by Excellent Noodles and Meridien Vista Gaming Corporation and will run in two categories, 34 to 54 and 55 and above years old with cash prizes, trophies and medals at stake.

“We are reviving the cycling event and planned to hold it every year in conjunction with the celebration of our annual town fiesta,” said Calimlim.
Cyclists from Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, La Union and Manila are expected to join.

BAYAMBANG

Meanwhile, in Bayambang, visiting cyclists from Manila continued to dominate the province’s cycling races by winning the BayamBike Challenge held on March 29 in a 1-2-3 finish.

Led by Excellent Noodles team standout Romeo Camingao, Davao City-born now Marikina-based, who registered his fourth victory out of seven races in the province, followed by Ysmael Gendrano in close second and Laoac bikefest winner Joel Balucos in third.

Camingao and Gendrano clocked the 120 kilometers flak trek in three hours, one minute and nine seconds with Balucos two minutes 24 seconds adrift, outsprinting Binalonan stalwart Benjie Nituan who finished fourth.

Rounding up the top ten were: Ramson Delfin (Manila); Angel Soriano (Alcala); Marny Doria (Guimba, N.E.); Benigno Molina (Mangaldan); Marlon Bartolome (San Manuel, Tarlac); Oscar Espiritu (San Manuel, Pangasinan)..–JAGJr.
