Mangaldan wins best float award; Lingayen bags best street dance

LINGAYEN—Mangaldan town grabbed this year’s grand prize for the float-design competition with its carabao-themed entry highlighting the town’s main product, the famous “Pindang” (thin slices of dried and cured carabao meat).

Besting more than 30 floats, Mangaldan won the P100, 000 cash prize.

Capital town Lingayen, meanwhile, also romped off with P100, 000 for being the street dancing champion besting 22 groups that competed.

The competitions were held during the Parada na Dayew Float Parade and Street Dance Competitions held on the 434th anniversary celebration of Pangasinan day last April 5 at the Capitol Beachfront.

The Parada na Dayew Grand Cultural Parade proved to be a best-seller event during the Agew na Pangasinan, drawing a huge crowd of close to 20,000.

The float parade and dance competition were among the main attractions of the commemoration of the province’s birth date.

Spectators and revelers including the 7, 000 participants to the Grand Cultural Parade filled the streets from the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center through the main roads leading to the Capitol Beachfront where everyone converged for the streetdance competition.

Other winners in the float design were San Nicolas-1st runner-up with a prize of P75, 000, Rosales- 2nd runner-up and cash of P50, 000, Alaminos City-3rd runner-up with P40, 000 cash, Pozorrubio-4th runner-up and cash of P30, 000 and Mabini occupying the 5th runner-up position winning a cash prize of P20, 000.

In the streetdance competition, Sto. Tomas was 1st runner-up, Villasis-2nd runner-up, Urbiztondo-3rd runner-up, San Carlos City-4th runner-up and Sta. Barbara garnering the prize for the 5th runner-up.

The winning streetdancers received prizes similar to the cash prizes received by the winners in the float-design competition.
