Local artists top nat’l performing arts contests

DAGUPAN City National High School (DCNHS) scored double victories, one in Song Composition and Interpretation and another  in  Chorale Competition, in the Second  National Performing Arts Festival  Fun Fiesta sa Pilipinas 2014 that  kicked off  the Dagupan Bangus Festival 2014 at the CSI Stadia and CSI the City Mall last April 1 to 3.

The East Central Integrated School in Dagupan also bagged the championship medal in folkdance in the secondary category while the West Central Elementary School snared the championship in the song composition and interpretation in the elementary category.

At the same time, the Urdaneta I Central School in Pangasinan went home as champions in folkdance in the elementary category while the Sinait National High School bagged the One-Act Play (secondary), and  Salotsolot National High School in San Juan, Ilocos Sur  in contemporary dance (secondary).

A total of 33 secondary and elementary schools participated in the event, including from the National Capital Region, Calabarzon, Soccskargen, Davao City, Zamboanga City, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan and Dagupan.

The theme of the competition, “Kabataang Pilipino, Dangal ng Lahi’t Bansa Ipagdiwang… IpagmalakiNatin Ito”, aims to promote, revive, re-invent and strengthen the Filipino culture.

A Parade of Costumes that featured hundreds of students in their traditional costumes also wowed the crowd that filled the entire stretch of major streets in the city last April 2.

Event chairman Councilor Jeslito Seen said the cultural presentations sought to encourage the young generation to appreciate the rich Filipino culture and arts.

“It is very important for the youth of today to know about culture and arts especially that we have two national artists,” Seen said.
