DCPS assures security at Bangus Festival

IT’S “all systems go”, according to the Dagupan City Police Station (DCPS), on the security preparations for the 2014 Bangus Festival, which started last week and will last until first week of May.

DCPS chief P/ Supt. Christopher Abrahano said security plans are in place and coordination with higher police offices are set if an augmentation force is necessary.

“As early as February, we have conducted coordinating conferences with different committee chairmen and organizers and planned out all needed security predations,” he said.

The DCPS also solicited help from force multipliers including from K-Pulis Dagupan, members of radio and bikers groups.

Police assistance hubs will also be set up during the festival’s main event, Kalutan ed Dalan, which will cover about three kilometers along the De Venecia Highway.

“We will have eight police assistance hub, one beside each stage, with composite team such as that of the medical team, POSO, CDRRMC,” he said.

The Bangus Festival runs from April 1 to May 5, 2014 and the formal opening is on April 22 with the Gilon-Gilon ed Baley Street Dancing Competition at 2 p.m. along the downtown and city plaza.

HEALTH CONCERNS

Meanwhile, City Health Officer Dr. Leonard L. Carbonell reiterated the call of the Department of Health to be on guard against six common diseases that can adversely affect one’s health this summer, especially during the celebration of the Bangus Festival with the expected big crowds.

In an interview over BTF (Broadcasting Truth and Facts) Balon Dagupan radio show, Carbonell also reminded the public to bring potable water to avoid heat stroke, particularly during the outdoor events.

“As a precautionary measure, we will be spraying, everyone especially the participants with water during the street dancing competitions para ma-maintain natin yong lamig sa kanilang katawan at hindi sila ma-dehydrate,” said Carbonell.

The City Health Office will also set up medical tents and centers in strategic places during the street dancing competition and Bangusan Street Party in partnership with the city’s force multipliers like the Region1 Medical Center and Philippine Red Cross. —Johanne R. Macob with report from CIO
