BANGUS FESTIVAL 2014

BUSINESS is good for lodging facilities in Dagupan as visitors flock to the city for the increasingly popular Bangus Festival .

Hotels and other accommodation establishments have reported to be fully booked for the festival which started at the beginning of the month and will have a grand official opening on April 22 with the Gilon-gilon ed Baley streetdancing competition.

“Around nine big hotels are operating in the city and all these are now fully booked for our Bangus Festival,” said Dr. Edwin Aguirre, head of the Bangus Festival 2014 secretariat, citing a report by City Tourism Development Coordinator Sharon M. Maramba.

Aguirre also disclosed that visitors from outside the city have made reservations for grills during the Bangusan Street Party on April 30.

“We are expecting from 700,000 to 800,000 people who will come to our city during the Gilon-gilon ed Baley and the same number coming to watch the Festivals of the North,” said Aguirre.

Up to one million people are expected to participate in the Bangusan Street Party, the culminating event of the festival.

Other activities in the Bangus Festival are the Bangusine International Cuisine Showcase on April 28 at CSI Stadia which is expected to be graced by ambassadors of different countries; the Festivals of the North on the 30th, and the Bangus Festival National Dance Convention at the Dagupan People’s Astrodome.

GOING INTERNATIONAL

In the Bangusine cookfest, various schools, restaurants, international students, and other foreign communities in the city will showcase their respective recipes using bangus.

Local celebrity chef Boy Logro will also prepare his own bangus dish.

“We’ve had 101 ways to cook bangus but these didn’t cater to the foreign taste so we thought of having an international cuisine,” said Bangusine event chairman, Atty. Gonzalo Duque.

The participants will also highlight their respective cultures by wearing their national costumes and decorating their booths accordingly.
