City recycles market wastes as food for ducks

THE city government here distributed ducks and geese to seven families from Barangays Lucao and Malued to serve as their livelihood, with the  fowls to be fed with waste vegetables and fruits from the city’s public markets.

“We are hitting two birds with one stone in these projects. While we are provid a source of income for indigent families and we are at the same time getting rid of decaying vegetables and fruits from the market, reducing the volume of garbage that we put into our dumpsite,” said Mayor Belen T. Fernandez.

The recipient families were chosen from among the beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilya Pilipino Program (4Ps).

The mayor conceptualized the project because decaying vegetables and fruits from the city’s Malimgas and Galvan Markets form part of the biggest bulk of wastes being thrown daily into the city’s dumpsite. (CIO)
