THE Dagupan City government has  released, much earlier than usual in previous years, the share of the city’s 31 barangays from Real Property Tax (RPT) collections for the first quarter totaling P9.3 million.

Mayor Belen Fernandez distributed the funds to barangay chairmen during the flag ceremony at the city plaza on April 7.

City Budget Officer Luz F. De Guzman said the move is in line with the Fernandez administration’s policy of transparency, public accountability and good governance.

The mayor ordered the early release of the RPT shares of the barangays to enable the barangays to meet their obligations and launch their planned projects for the communities.

Fernandez assured the barngay kapitans that the release of RPT shares of the barangays will now be done on a monthly basis.

Based on the records of the City Budget Office, Barangay Pantal received the biggest RPT share at P797.600; followed by Lucao, P571,940; Mayombo, P564,754; Bonuan Gueset, P524,995; Barangay 1, P515,952;Malued, P499,198; Pogo Chico, P466,696; Poblacion Oeste, P339,613; Bonuan Boquig, P360,425; and Caranglaan, P357,813.

De Guzman said this was the third fund release made by the city to the barangays, since the start of the the year.

The  first was the  P6 million from the city’s 20 per cent development fund to be spent for barangay development projects, mostly for setting up Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs)  and improve garbage collection.

The second was P2.6 million as subsidies to 22 clustered  barangays for their participation in the “Gilon-Gilon” street dance competition on April 22 that will officially kick off the city’s Bangus Festival.—LVM
