THE Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) will hold a Bangus Summit on April 23 at Star Plaza Hotel to discuss with stakeholders how they can market the Dagupan bangus in the international market.

DTI Provincial Director Peter O. Mangabat said the summit will focus on export requirements and regulation for food.

The DTI’s Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPO-Phl) will also orient participants on its role in the bangus industry.

“This is to possibly patent our own Dagupan bangus against ‘alien’ bangus masquerading as Dagupan bangus,” said Mangabat.

City Councilor Jeslito C. Seen, summit chairman, said the meeting will also discuss other issues plaguing the local fishpond industry.

Regional Director Nestor D. Domenden of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) will present the latest profile of the bangus industry in the region while the  Bureau of Export Trade Promotion (BETP) will present an overview of the ASEAN Economic Community and its relevance to the bangus industry.
