Alcala’s plaza adjudged best in R1

THE municipal plaza of Alcala, developed into a tourism center through partnership between the local government unit (LGU) and non-government organizations (NGOs), has been awarded the best in Region 1.

The award was conferred by the National Development Authority, through the Regional Development Council, during last week’s State of the Region’s Development Conference and RDC 1 Award’s Program held in San Fernando City, La Union.

Representing Pangasinan in the “Search for Best LGU-NGO Partnership”, Alcala bested Tagudin, Ilocos Sur (2nd runner up) and San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte (1st runner-up).

“We are champions in the region! Congratulations to all organizations of Alcala all over the world! Di po natin mapapaganda at maipagmamalaki ang ating park at buong bayan kung di po dahil sa inyong lahat! Special mention  para kay former Mayor Manuel Collado. Tinuloy ko lang po itong inyong napakagandang sinimulan,” wrote Mayor Ryan Paolo V. Mencias in his personal Facebook account minutes after receiving the award.

The NGO partners are mostly groups of Alcala locals who based in other parts of the country and abroad.

These are: Alcaleneans of Metro Manila, Alcaleneans of North America- Canada, Alcala Association of Hawaii, Alcalenean Association of Southern California, Alcaleneans of Northern California, Alcala Pangasinan Organization of Canada, SK Federation 2007-2010, AHS Class 59, Mr. & Mrs. Tony Lopez, Mr. & Mrs. Sotero Cortez, Mr. & Mrs. Basilio Loria, Engr. & Mrs. Hipolito Noveloso, Engr. & Mrs. Reynaldo Mencias, Efren and Amy Villon Mariano, Domingo and Brenda Monegas, Mr. & Mrs. Marcos & Julie Magno, Liza Yadao Fink, Mr. & Mrs. William Espiritu, Mr. & Mrs. Romeo Fortes, Dr. & Mrs. George Gaffud, Alcaleneans of Hawaii Maui Chapter, Alcaleneans Organization of Hong Kong and Hon. Mark and Rep. Kimi Cojuangco.

“The town’s LGU-NGO partnership is different from the others because the Alcalenean NGO that partnered with the municipal government was composed of not just a single NGO but dozens of private organizations and individuals—it is the mother of all synergies,” said Alcala officials.
